The Soprano Anne Wilkins was born in Neath, South Wales and educated at Ysgol Penybont for the Visually Impaired at Bridgend, and later at the Royal National College for the Blind, Shrewsbury, where, as well as taking a secretarial course, she studied the piano and was a member of the College choir.
Later, Anne studied singing at the Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff and continues to study with Jeanette Massocchi, during which time she has successfully gained her FTCL and ARCM diplomas in Singing Performance.
Anne is able to communicate beautifully with an audience, with her unique beautiful tone quality and musicianship, vocal flexibility and use of varying styles. These qualities are helping to build this Soprano a very successful reputation.
Anne successfully undertakes a busy singing career and has appeared at many concerts throughout the UK and has a wide and varied oratorio and recital repertoire. Anne has been the soloist in Performances which include Handel’s “Messiah”, Haydn’s ‘Creation’, Mozart’s ‘Solemn Vespers’, Schubert’s Mass in ‘G’, Puccini’s ‘Messa Di Gloria’, Brahms’ ‘German Requiem’ and Bach’s “B Minor Mass”. She has worked with choirs and Choral Societies throughout the UK including Monmouth Choral Society, Torfaen Choral Society, based in Gwent, and the Derbyshire Singers, of Matlock, North Derbyshire.
Most recent performances have included recitals under the RNIB’s Professional Development programme at their Headquarters in London and also at Moorfields Eye Hospital, at which she was accompanied by the New Zealand Pianist, Lindy Tennent-Brown who is a Wigmore Hall Young Artist
Anne was the winner of the Blue Ribbon at the Cardigan Eisteddfod, 2003, and has been winner of the Lieder Competition at the National Eisteddfod of Wales on two occasions, winning in the Newport Eisteddfod in 2004 and Swansea Eisteddfod in 2006. Anne’s most recent competition success was at the Abergavenny Eisteddfod in June, 2008, where she won the Welsh Song and Open Solo competitions (http://www.abergavennyeisteddfod.co.uk/english/2008-results.php). These competitions were adjudicated this year by Suzanne Murphy, the renowned Soprano who is known for her lead roles with Welsh National Opera.
