Mendelssohn’s Oratorio ‘Elijah’

Well, I did it! Last Sunday, 7th March, I sang the Soprano solo part in Mendelssohn’s Oratorio ‘Elijah’ at Tabernacl Chapel, Bridgend. It was a wonderful experience to sing this with three other soloists, Robin Lynn-Evans Tenor, Flora York-Skinner Contralto and Roger Langford, Baritone. They were so good and it was such a privilege for me to sing with them. I learned such a lot. The Tabernacl Choir and Orchestra were wonderful, too and it gave me so much pleasure being part of their performance.

I had been so excited leading up to the performance. I first knew I had been selected to be asked to sing this part just before Christmas and it was like having all the Christmas and Birthday presents I had ever wanted all at the same time. I feel as though I have lived and breathed this music for the last three months but it has all been worth it.

I was so pleased that so many friends and also my family came to the performance but rather sad that none of my work colleagues felt able to do so. Still, I can live in hope that they may come to something else!

General feedback has been good so I really hope that I will get more singing work as a result of this.

Now I’m off to have some well-earned relaxation.

Anne.
