Music

I just couldn’t end today without writing my blog again! I will do this
every day now, I hope. I have had some good musical experiences since
yesterday. Last evening, my accompanist and I did some serious work on
songs. At the moment, we are working on ‘Mandoline’ and ‘Claire de Lune’ by
Faure, which are wonderful songs. We hope we will get an opportunity to
include them in a recital programme in the not too distant future. I really
enjoy these times, we work as a team and although there is a lot of fun and
laughter involved, we certainly get the work done.

Today, I actually made some time to really listen to Music properly. The
two recordings which are a ‘Must’ for my Christmas list are one of Kiri Te
Kanawa accompanied by Sir George Scholti in a recording of the Strauss Four
Last Songs. It was fabulous! Kiri, or I should say, Dame Kiri, at her best
and such a wonderful and sensitive accompaniment.

The second recording was of Sir George Scholti and Daniel Barenboem playing
the Mozart Concerto for two Pianos. It was breath-taking and their
technique was something which I think is rarely heard done so well. This
helped to make my day!

Now it’s time for bed and to try at least to get some benefit from the fact
that the clocks are going back an hour tonight.

Tomorrow will be a busy and interesting day. The St Woolos Players, the
Orchestra of which I am Secretary, have their first rehearsal for their
forthcoming concert so it should be very interesting. The concert will take
place at 3.00 p.m. on Sunday, 4th November, 2012 at St Woolos Cathedral in
Newport, Monmouthshire and should not be missed. I would certainly
recommend anyone who can do so to go along. The programme will consist of
the Howard Ferguson Piano Concerto which will be played by the celebrated
Pianist Duncan Honeybourne, The Eclogue for Strings by Gerald Finzi, three
Pastoral Songs by Roger Quilter, sung by Soprano Sarah Griffiths, and Handel
Concerto Grosso Opus 3, No. 2. This is not to be missed!.

Will write more tomorrow.

Bye for the moment.

Anne.
